Say NO to Fear

by J. M. Farro on June 7th, 2010

How is your fear level today? Are you worried, anxious, fretful, or fearful? I spent most of my life living in fear. Even as a Christian, I didn’t know that I had any power over fear, or that there was anything I could do about it. I just always assumed that I was helpless to help myself. Thankfully, God has taught me the truth on this subject, and even though I have a long way to go, I have learned some eye-opening lessons that I’d like to share with you.

Satan has been called the Author of Fear. It is one of his greatest weapons against believers to try to keep us from living the abundant and purposeful life that belongs to us in Christ. Fortunately, the Lord has not left us powerless. In fact, Jesus said: “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” (Luke 10:19 NKJV) Once we have surrendered our life to Christ, and have been filled with His Spirit, the devil does not have the power or authority to torment us with fear. Unless we allow him to. By taking an aggressive stance against fear and its source, you and I have the potential and ability to live free from debilitating fear.

As soon as we become fearful or anxious, we need to say aloud, “I resist and rebuke you, Fear! You are not of God, and I give you no place in me! Depart from me, in the name of Jesus Christ, and don’t ever come back!” Then, we need to declare the mighty truth of God’s Word by saying, “For God has not given me a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind!” (2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV) Lastly, we can lift our hands and begin thanking and praising God for His peace, and say, “Lord, I claim Your peace that surpasses all understanding to guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus!” (Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV) Jesus died so that you could live in peace. Start exercising your spiritual rights today!

Thank you for this one. The last few days I’ve been letting some fear creep in on me concerning my children’s salvation (or need of it) and how they spend their time. I’m learning and trying to put it all in God’s hand; knowing He is in control and His Spirit is the one to convict their hearts. That I need to pray for them and trust in God to handle it. But lately I’ve started to fear again. But thank you…I see I need to rebuke fear and start praising and thanking God for all the things He has done and will do.

Donna, thank you for writing and letting me know how my “fear” message ministered to you. I’ve been a mom for almost 33 years, so I understand what you are experiencing right now. Please know that I am praying for you and yours!
