A Powerful Promise from the Savior

by J. M. Farro on June 21st, 2010

Years ago, I read the life story of one of the greatest evangelists of our time, and the thing that captured my attention most was the fact that he built his entire ministry on a single promise from God. The promise? “Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” (John 14:13 NASB) These were Jesus’ words to His disciples, and they still apply today to those who are His devoted followers.

I can tell you from experience that basing your requests to God on this promise is extremely powerful. It is the Savior’s desire to glorify the Father. So when you and I ask the Savior for something that is in harmony with God’s will, we have the assurance of knowing that His answer is on the way as soon as we pray. I never start my day out without asking the Lord to touch and change lives through me, on the basis of this awesome promise. I use it to offer up all of my daily tasks to Him, and to ask for His help with each one. I even claim this promise when I’m asking the Lord to make changes in my attitudes and actions, and those of my loved ones. And every day, I see God’s hand working mightily in hearts and lives, as a result of praying this promise.

Perhaps the Lord is prompting you today to make your prayers more promise-centered, rather than problem-centered. The Savior’s promise in John 14:13 is a great place to start. Today, ask Him for the desires of your heart, and finish your petition by saying, “Lord, do it that the Father may be glorified in the Son…”
