Expect the Unexpected!

by J. M. Farro on July 5th, 2010

Yesterday, our most reliable vehicle had to have some major work done. When my husband, Joe, told me that the repairs would cost more than $1,400, I nearly fainted. I could tell that Joe was more than a little concerned about the high cost of these repairs, so I went before the Lord and asked for His help. He reminded me of His Word in Isaiah 64:3 (NIV), which says: “You did awesome things that we did not expect.” So I prayed, “Lord, I know that we were told that the cost of getting our car back on the road would be more than $1,400. But I’m asking You to do awesome things that we don’t expect, and bring these charges down so that they will be more affordable for us.”

When my husband got home from work with our car, it was plain to see that he was happy and relieved. The repairman had decided to forgive us more than $400, and our bill came to less than $1,000. I knew without a doubt that God had heard my prayer and intervened, and I immediately gave Him all the thanks and the glory.

When you get a disturbing report from the doctor, the mechanic, your boss, or anyone else, don’t just accept it at face value. Instead, bring it before the Lord in prayer. Ask Him to do awesome things that you don’t expect — and then expect the unexpected!
