Do Something Different

by J. M. Farro on March 28th, 2011

I was thinking about some of the bad habits I’ve been wrestling with lately when the Lord spoke to my heart, “Do something different.” Those words brought to mind a popular quote by Benjamin Franklin: “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.” This was the Lord’s way of trying to get it through my head that I wasn’t going to see any progress or victory in certain areas of my life until I began making some necessary changes.

At first, I inwardly panicked, but then I remembered God’s promise which says, “God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him.” (Philippians 2:13 NLT) This is the Lord’s assurance that He isn’t going to ask us to do anything that He won’t empower us to do. And I’ve discovered that even if we are only able to take small steps in the right direction, He will reward our obedience.

If you are struggling in your finances today, do something different. If God is dealing with you about your eating or drinking habits, do something different. If your relationships aren’t what they’re supposed to be, do something different. And rest assured that the God who can do a lot with a little will lead you on to victory!
