He Saved Me from My Enemies

by J. M. Farro on January 23rd, 2022

“I called on the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and He saved me from my enemies.” Psalm 18:3 NLT

This verse of Scripture, penned by David the shepherd-king under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, reveals a powerful divine strategy for winning battles against the world, the flesh, and the devil.  When we are under attack in some way, the attitude we adopt during that time will determine our outcome.  In David’s case, all those years he was hunted down by jealous King Saul and his men, David’s attitude was, “the Lord is worthy of praise.”  And the result was that God delivered His servant David from all of his enemies, and placed a crown on his head.

What we have to remember in times of trouble is that praise is a powerful form of spiritual warfare.  The Bible says of the Lord’s people: “God’s high and holy praises fill their mouths, for their shouted praises are their weapons of war!” (Psalms 149:6 TPT)  And Psalm 8:2 says: “You have built a stronghold by the songs of children.  Strength rises up with the chorus of infants.  This kind of praise has power to shut Satan’s mouth.  Childlike worship will silence the madness of those who oppose You.” (Psalms 8:2 TPT)  I love how this Passion Translation tells us that the forces of evil can be defeated by the simplest forms of praise.  Even just declaring, “Thank You, Lord, that help is on the way!” can put the devil on the run.

David was wise enough to call upon the Lord in his time of trouble, and we are wise to follow his example.  The next time you are under attack in some way, lift up your head and your hands and declare, “Lord, You are worthy of praise!”  Maintain an attitude of gratitude and worship, no matter how heated the battle becomes, so that in the end you can share a testimony like David’s that says, “He saved me from my enemies!”

Lord, when trouble strikes, remind me to turn to You first for guidance and strength.  Teach me how to continually praise You so that my focus will remain on You instead of on my circumstances.  Show me how to worship You in advance for the custom-made solutions that You have in store for me.  Thank You that as I call upon You with praise on my lips, You will cause me to triumph over my enemies every single time!
