An Increase of Honor and Comfort

by J. M. Farro on June 12th, 2022

“Though You have made me see troubles, many and bitter, You will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth You will again bring me up.  You will increase my honor and comfort me once again.”  Psalm 71:20-21 NIV

One of the things I appreciate about Jesus is His honesty.  He told us plainly that we would experience trials and troubles in this world, so that we would not lose our faith in Him when we encountered them. (John 16:33)  If we will remember God’s promises, and cling to them in times of turmoil, the Lord will always turn things around in our favor in the end. (Romans 8:28)

The verses above from Psalm 71 say the same thing.  There are times when God does allow us to “see troubles, many and bitter.”  But that is not the end of the story.  Because He is a God of restoration, He revives us, and gives us a resurrection out of the depths we sink into.  But He doesn’t stop there.  He ultimately increases our honor in ways that bring glory to Him – and He comforts us, and fills us with a fresh sense of purpose.

Jesus is the perfect example of these biblical principles.  God made Him suffer greatly, but He did it for the purpose of, not only resurrecting Him, but increasing His honor – so that God might be glorified. You may feel like you are in the midst of bitter troubles today, but God has a resurrection in store for you – IF you will refuse to doubt Him and His good intentions for you.  Lean heavily upon Him, dear one, and know that an increase of honor and comfort is headed your way right now!

Lord, when troubles come my way, help me to turn to You before I turn to anyone else.  Comfort me as only You can.  Rescue me from doubt and despair, and restore to me all that I have lost. (Zechariah 9:12)  Increase my greatness and my honor, and make me prosper more than ever before. (Psalm 71:21 AMP; Ezekiel 36:11)  Thank You that as I commit my battles to You, and enter Your rest, You will cause me to triumph over every adversity for Your glory! (2 Chronicles 20:15; Hebrews 4:3; 2 Corinthians 2:14)
