Supernatural Comfort

by J. M. Farro on April 14th, 2010

I used to be so afraid of being hurt, that I isolated myself from as many people as possible. It’s a terribly lonely way to live, and I don’t recommend it. Since I’ve been walking closely with the Lord, I’ve learned that there isn’t any wound or pain that He can’t heal. How does He do it? Through the power of His Holy Spirit who lives on the inside of those who are devoted to Him. Jesus said, “I will ask the Father and He will give you another Comforter, and He will never leave you.” (John 14:16 TLB) Every moment of every day, the supernatural comfort of God is available to us.

Nowadays, as soon as someone does or says something that wounds me, I whisper a silent prayer, asking the Lord to comfort me right then and there. That way, I’m not so tempted to get offended or angry, or to try to defend myself. Then, the next time I am alone with the Lord and reading His Word, I talk to Him about my hurt, and I ask for His perspective on the matter. Many times, I’ll ask Him, “What do YOU have to say about this, Lord?” Then I listen for Him to speak words of comfort and healing to my soul.

You and I can’t afford to isolate ourselves from others for fear of being hurt. If we do, we will greatly hinder our usefulness to God, and we will never fulfill our God-given purpose or potential. The fact is that as we follow the Lord’s lead, we are going to have to deal with some very difficult people. Praise God today that He will strengthen and comfort us every step of the way!
