Let Him Direct Your Steps

When I read the Amplified translation of Ephesians 2:10 years ago, it opened my eyes to the importance of inviting God’s involvement into all of my daily activities. This verse talks about us “taking paths which [God] prepared ahead of time, that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live].” Since God always knows and wants what is best for us, and since He has specific and unique paths already laid out for us, doesn’t it make sense to consult Him whenever we make plans of any kind?

For instance, today I had to make a haircut appointment for myself, but I didn’t know for sure which day would be best for me two weeks from now. Instead of trying to guess, or to rely solely on logic in the matter, I prayed for God’s assistance. I said, “Lord, order my steps, and direct my paths. Keep me in the center of Your will. Help me to always be in the right place at the right time.” (Psalm 37:23; Proverbs 3:5-6) With God, there’s no such thing as “unforeseen circumstances”. He knows ahead of time what our schedule is going to be like on any given day. And He can foresee every opportunity and every problem that is going to crop up before we even get an inkling of it. So inviting Him to direct our steps is the wisest thing we can do, and it can spare us from unnecessary stress and anxiety in the long run.

The Lord wants you to “live the good life,” and He’s already prepared your paths ahead of time. If you will walk in close fellowship with Him on a moment-by-moment basis, consulting Him and following His lead in every way, you won’t ever have to miss out on His best for you!
